Kelly Nash was born on September 5, 1989, in Oneonta, Alabama to parents Beverly and Alan Nash.
Kelly graduated from Lakeview Academy in 2008 and was attending Georgia Gwinnett College with a major in accounting. He was working at his father’s construction business, J. Alan Custom Homes, and had been working there for 14 months.
Kelly had a girlfriend, Jessica Sexton, and the two had been dating for 3 years and had recently moved into a house together on Jimmy Dodd Road in the city of Buford, Georgia.
Kelly Nash Missing
In the early hours of January 5th, 2015, Kelly woke up to cold/flu symptoms, he was sneezing, coughing, and said he wasn’t feeling well. Kelly had been suffering from recurring sinus infections and had slept on the couch so that his girlfriend could get a good night’s sleep before going to work.
Jessica had woken up to find Kelly playing video games on his Xbox, at 3:30 am, in the living room. He had told her he wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t sleep, then Jessica went back to bed.
When she woke up at 7:30 am to let the dogs out and go to work, Kelly wasn’t at home, and the video game he had been playing was left idle.
His cellphone, wallet with ID, and keys to his truck were still in their home, the only thing missing was a 9mm handgun with a single clip.
Investigators found surveillance footage of Kelly Nash at a gas station near his home around 9 pm talking to Jessica on the phone, the night before he went missing. Nothing in the footage showed anything out of the ordinary and his mum said he looked happy.
On January 4th, at 3:30 am, a 28-second voicemail on Jessica’s phone was left by Kelly. The call was possibly inadvertent, due to no message being left, only a few muffled words and sounds.
Another surveillance footage shows someone, who could possibly be Kelly, at 4:20 am, on a gas station exterior CCTV, walking down the road. This was the same gas station Kelly was seen at buying cold medicine.
Investigators used helicopters, scent tracking dogs, and cadaver dogs were used in searches for Kelly, however, nothing significant was found.
His family had told authorities that Kelly wasn’t the type to just disappear.
A month later, on February 8th, 2015, a man fishing in Lake Lanier, near Shadburn Ferry Road, discovered a badly decomposed body, which was later confirmed to be Kelly Nash’s. He was found in the cove behind his father’s house, in the clothes he was last seen in, his pajamas and tattoo’s on the body helped positively identify Kelly.
Authorities have stated Kelly Nash’s cause of death was from a gunshot wound and subsequently drowned. They have ruled out his death to be under suspicious circumstances.
Kelly Nash’s funeral was held on February 15th, 2015, and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Oneonta, Alabama. No evidence of foul play in his death was found, however, the circumstances leading to his death still remain unknown.
The autopsy has not been released and it is unknown if authorities recovered a bullet or a gun from the scene.
