Physical Description

Akia Shawnta Eggleston is an African-American female with black hair and brown eyes, she is 4’8 tall and weighs 100lbs. She was last seen wearing a green shirt, a black jacket with grey sleeves, black and white yoga pants, and black sneakers.


Akia has her ears pierced, a tattoo of cherries on her left shoulder blade, a tattoo of building blocks, and the name ‘Emery’ on her upper left arm.

Background Information

Akia Eggleston was born on September 6th, 1994, and was raised by her mother who had passed away from breast cancer in 2012, and her stepfather who worked at the Department of Labor.


Akia has a two-year-old daughter from a previous relationship, with who she shared custody with the father every weekend.  At the time of her disappearance, Akia was 35 weeks pregnant with a baby boy.

She was described as a very kind, sweet person who always went out of her way for people. everyone around her including Akia was so excited about having a baby boy on the way.  Akia’s pregnancy was considered high risk and her due date was set earlier.


Akia’s family through a baby shower for her on May 7th, 2017 however Akia never showed up. The family went to perform a welfare check on her at her home and they found all of her important belongings were still inside the home, except for her bed and a couple of dressers.

This was not considered unusual as Akia was in the process of moving. However, there was a significantly large hole in the wall, which was slightly alarming to the family.

The family then found out that Akia did not go to her most recent doctor’s appointment, which is when they all realized no one had seen or heard from Akia since May 3rd, 2017. Akia Eggleston was reported missing immediately to the Baltimore Police Department.

Akia’s due date came by and there was still no sign of her.

On May 3rd, 2017, Akia was seen on surveillance footage at a bank, withdrawing money in the Inner Harbor area of Baltimore, Maryland. She did not seem to appear in any sort of danger and nothing seemed to be unusual.

A friend of Akia’s had driven her to the bank on May 3rd, where she withdraw a couple of hundred dollars and they the friend drove her back home, this was the last time anyone saw or heard from her. There was no activity on her social media, which was extremely unusual because she always used it.

Akia’s friend, who drove her to the bank, told her family that Akia was planning on buying a house with the father of her baby, however, the family did not know who the father was. This was until the friend told them it was a friend of Akia’s stepfather, this was a massive shock to him.

Her bank card was found outside of her apartment right beside a bush.

The Search/Investigation

Akia’s family and friends have been searching woods, lakes, parks any location around the area she was last seen and her apartment. They have also put up fliers as well as handed to out to anyone in the area.


Authorities initially did not consider Akia’s disappearance to be foul play as they believed she had just moved out.

After looking at her cellphone records, investigators found text messages between Akia and her roommate talking about her plans to move out of her apartment to live with the father of her unborn baby by May 10th, 2017.

Investigators checked all hospitals but there was no sign of Akia, they interviewed everyone who worked at the bank but no one saw anything unusual.

Authorities spoke to the father of Akia’s baby but due to it being an ongoing case they have not released any information the baby’s father has said.


On February 3rd, 2022 Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby held a press conference to announce the arrest of a suspect in Akia Eggleston’s disappearance.

Officers arrested Michael Robertson (father of her unborn baby) for the murder of 22-year-old Akia Eggleston and her unborn child.

While Akia’s body has not been found, Michael Robertson is being held on bond in Michigan, where he currently resides. He faces a maximum penalty of two life sentences in prison if found guilty of all charges which include two counts of First Degree Murder.
